Along a wooded path to the school dormitory is a stairway with 28 steps. The stairs
are referred to as the Wishing Stairs, because a fox's spirit in the stairs will
grant wishes. If someone wishes with all of her heart as she climbs the stairs,
a 29th stair will appear and a wish will be granted. However, the students who
climb the stairs are not aware that the wishes granted by the fox return as terrible
curses...
So-hee and Jin-sung study in the dance department and are best friends. However,
So-hee's natural talent at ballet always relegates the hard-working Jin-sung to
being second best. Jin-sung's heart leaps when she sees a notice for a Seoul ballet
competition for which her school will choose one representative. Soon thereafter,
however, she overhears her teachers discussing ways to send So-hee as the school's
representative, and without realizing it she finds herself drawn to the Wishing
Stairs.
So-hee, who has won the school auditions even though a piece of glass is placed
inside her toe shoes, goes in search of Jin-sung. The two of them argue and
grow angry. In the midst of their fighting, So-hee falls and tumbles down the
stairs. Meanwhile, an overweight art major named Hae-ju who admires the pretty
So-hee is the target of many students' ridicule. In the end, Hae-ju suffers
from a huge embarrassment in front of many students, and she goes to climb the
  stairs.
Competing in place of the injured So-hee, Jin-sung wins first prize at the
Seoul ballet competition. One night So-hee, who Jin-sung believes was in the
hospital, comes to see Jin-sung by climbing through the window of her room in
the dormitory. So-hee confesses that she wished to the stairs that she could
always be together with Jin-sung. Jin-sung is only sorry for what has happened
to So-hee. The following day, she learns that So-hee had already died the previous
night before the visit, and she falls into shock. Meanwhile, the formerly overweight
Hae-ju becomes ever thinner, and the curses formed by the wishes of the children
  bring death to the school.
