Joe Yabuki, a young man who grows up in one of the toughest districts in Tokyo is discovered by Danbei and old boxing coach. However Joe does not give importance to Danbei's training and decides to continue his life as a street criminal, which lands him in Jail. While in prison he finally realizes the potential that he has a boxer and decides to pursue a boxing career after he gets out of the prison. At the end of the series Rickiishi, one of Joe's old prision acquaintances, dies in a bout with Joe. This leave's our hero devastated.
